One of the quickest and less expensive ways to improve an older slitting station is to replace antiquated or defective knife holders. When knife holders become loose and fail to maintain the required slitting geometry(s) we see loss of slit edge quality and poor knife life.
When a maintenance or production capital budget does not have enough money for replacing the total slitter/rewind an excellent compromise is to upgrade the slitter section and the existing slitter/rewind.
New knife holders, a new AC drive, idler roll balancing, bearing replacements, roll alignment, and operator (re) training are all important factors that can revitalize your slitting operation.
