The Dienes DF-150 knife holder combines the superior rigidity of the DF-145 with the ability to maximize knife life while obtaining the best slit quality possible for a given material.

Pneumatic knife holders typically have mechanical springs to remove the top blade from the bottom knife when air pressure is shut off. A shaft, bearing, and/or sleeve mechanism support horizontal travel of the knife blade. In addition, commercial O-ring seals are used to prevent air leaks.

This mechanism is prone to hang-up or stick during travel, especially during "break-away". Individual holders will have varying amounts of sticking based upon manufacturing tolerances, lubrication and the seal type employed.

This sticking causes high and irregular levels of side-load force because of the increased amount of air pressure needed to overcome the stick when bringing the top knife against the bottom knife.

The DF-150 is the only holder that minimizes the horizontal stick by utilizing a pre-loaded, anti-friction, linear ball bearing as a guide, along with stress free pneumatic diaphragms, instead of O-ring style seals. These features and a separate, regulated air supply which totally collapse and isolate the mechanical return spring, create the best knife holder available for paper mill applications.

Separate air regulation can set the required side load force (pressure) to the minimum amount needed to slit your material. Because the DF-150 controls the level and consistency of knife contact force for all the holders in line, we can maximize knife life.

The effects of vibration and run-out are also minimized. With the return spring not affecting side load force, the quicker responding air cushion and pre-loaded linear ball bearings act as an efficient damper to prevent the top knife from leaving the bottom knife.
